Have you tried Tapping (EFT)?

Updated: Nov 11, 2018

I was first introduced to tapping about 8 years ago, when a counselor, Nancy, I was working with suggested I give this tapping thing a try. I'm pretty sure she called it something different, but she gave me a sheet that had clearly been copied and recopied several times outlining the tapping points and an affirming sentence. She told me to repeat the affirming sentence out loud or recite it in my mind while simultaneously tapping specific points on my body (eyebrow, under the arm, the spot between the eyebrow, to name a few). At that time, I really had no idea what I was doing or why it seemed to help, I just knew I felt a tad better.

Tapping is said to be effective in relieving many issues ranging from anxiety and stress to emotional blocks and even chronic pain! It acknowledges the understanding that our mind and body are truly connected. The process simply consists of focusing on a pressing issue (fear, anxiety, pain, etc) while using your fingers to literally tap on nine specific meridian points.

To be a little more specific, Tapping shows to calm the amygdala, the part of the brain responsible for that fight or flight response. This response is of course valuable in cases of actual danger, but tapping is useful in calming the amygdala, actually rewiring the brain to be respond more appropriately to the situation at hand. That's pretty cool!

For those who may be doubting that talking to yourself and tapping the top of your head can actually alleviate the anxiety you're feeling, there actually is quite a lot of scientific evidence to back it up! Check out some here: https://www.thetappingsolution.com/science-research/
